The California Glass Exchange is a regional
glass exchange of ideas and information started over twenty
years ago by professors Robert C. Fritz of San Jose State
University in San Jose, CA. and George Jercich of the California
Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA.
This 2008 year the California Glass Exchange event date has been moved to the Fall. A “new” idea was presented this year to cooperate with the yearly Artoberfest in Chico, CA. The idea is to pay tribute to a “long standing” industry of glass in Chico which began in the fledgling year’s of the Studio Glass movement in California nearly 40 years ago. Many individual artist/craftsmen who were/are natives of Chico, student graduate practitioners who have attended Chico State University, and artisan/practitioners who have employed or been employed in the pursuits of decorative or art glass are being featured in this year’s program. In consecutive past years, the event has been hosted by San Bernardino Valley College and California State University/San Bernardino 2007, Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo in 2004 Cal State Fullerton in 2003, San Jose State and Ohlone College in 2002.
CGE is a "not for profit" group of glass educators,
artists, students, enthusiasts, and collectors, who enjoy exchanging
ideas and techniques related to glass art.
CGE offers students and local artists (who might not be
able to travel to distant Glass Art Society meetings) the opportunity
to exchange ideas, meet other artists, and learn about new
and exciting innovations in the glass art field.
